Cheap Honeymoon IdeasThe economy is pinching everyone’s wallets these days and newlywed couples are no different. Even if a couple does have a few extra dollars to their name, they may want to save these dollars for a house purchase or some other practical expense and are looking for some ideas for cheap honeymoons that they can take after the wedding.

If this sounds like you, then you’re in luck. There are many things that you can do by way of cheap honeymoons that are still romantic, relaxing and enjoyable.

For one thing, consider staying somewhere local rather than traveling to an exotic foreign country. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to stay in your city or locale but cheap honeymoons can normally be found within a few hundred miles of where you live. Is there a national park nearby or a lake with nice hotels and other activities? Many Americans are finding that a trip to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, the Great Smoky Mountains, the Florida everglades, Michigan’s Mackinac Island, any of the New England states or Colorado Springs is both relaxing and romantic, more so than they may have ever imagined. While these destinations can serve as cheap honeymoons they don’t lack anything by way of accommodations, activities and services. Some hotels that are located near the national parks rival any world-class resort and places such as Mackinac Island that don’t allow motorized vehicles offer an atmosphere that is incredibly relaxing and romantic. You can also save money by driving to these locations rather than flying and bear in mind that when you spend your honeymoon dollars in your home country you are helping to stimulate the economy there rather than in another country.

Other ideas for cheap honeymoons might include staying in a cabin by a lake rather than a hotel. Many cabins are very comfortable and cozy and if you plan on being outside all day then you don’t really need a luxury room just for sleeping. Some couples have also enjoyed camping for cheap honeymoons, if not for their entire trip then at least for a day or two in order to save that hotel room money.

Sometimes enjoying cheap honeymoons is just a matter of being creative with your ideas for a honeymoon and with what you do once you’re on your honeymoon. For example, staying in a bed and breakfast may be cheaper than an actual hotel. Renting scooters at tropical locations is much cheaper than renting a car and can actually be a fun experience. Sometimes cheap honeymoons may mean just cutting back on how long you’re gone; consider making it a five day trip rather than a full seven days, or taking a long weekend after your wedding and saving your actual honeymoon trip for later in the year when you can travel off-season. By being creative, practical and realistic, you may find that you have a wealth of ideas for cheap honeymoons that are romantic, relaxing and enjoyable for both of you.
