Wedding HairstylesA wedding is a happy occasion and is the bridal couples’ special day.  However, the focal point of any wedding is always the bride.  A great wedding will usually cost several thousand dollars.  One of the decisions that the bride has to make before this very special day is the hairstyles for herself and the bridal entourage.

Up Or Down?

The bride has two basic options for her hairstyle for the wedding - she can either have her hair up or down.  In the past, the usual choice for brides has been to have their hair up, however, more recently, hairstyles for weddings have taken a more casual turn and more and more brides have been leaving their hair down.  Brides that leave their hair down usually wear a tiara or decorate their hair with jeweled pins or combs.

Nowadays, if the bride puts her hair up, it is normally in a very casual bun or knot from which tendrils of hair flow, this softens the overall effect of the hairstyle.  Hairstyles for weddings are now very casual and not as severe as in the past. This is probably because the wedding gowns that are in fashion these days are often casual gowns that do not have the trappings of older gowns.  In fact, nowadays, some brides don’t even wear a traditional wedding veil, they simply wear flowers or jewels in their hair.

Hairstyles for the other members of the bridal entourage also need to be considered by the bride.  The bridesmaids need to look their best during the ceremony and it is customary for them to have similar hairstyles to the bride.  However, it is very important that their hairstyles do not overshadow the bride’s hairstyle!  Usually, hairstyles for weddings have a theme or they correspond to the dresses worn.

Women with long hair have a lot more choices than those with short hair when it comes to wedding hairstyles.  Therefore, if you have short hair, you may want to consider growing it for your big day.

What About The Men?

It is not only the ladies that have to choose their hairstyle for the wedding, the men have to also.  Although, their choices depend mainly on their current hairstyle.  Men have to choose whether to pull back their hair or just gel it at the front.  It is advisable for the men in the bridal entourage to have a haircut around two weeks before the wedding so that there is time for growth and styling if the haircut isn’t to their liking.

The key here is forward planning, make sure you think about wedding hairstyles well in advance so that you can grow your hair if needs be!

I grew my hair out for over a year so I could have an updo. What a pain it was! I didn’t realize just how many pins one head of hair could hold!
It looked nice but it was a real relief to finally have it cut a few weeks after the wedding. I donated the 5 inches to Locks of Love. :-)
