You can have the wedding of your dreams without it costing the earth. When you read headlines such as “Couples get into debt to finance wedding”, you think that you are going to have to sell your house, car and all your belongings to finance your big day - this isn’t true! What you do need are great money-saving ideas to stretch every penny. This doesn’t mean that you have to outfit your whole wedding from the pound shop, this just means finding areas where you can save money so that you can splurge in other areas.
Here are six great money-saving tips specifically designed to help you save money on your wedding ceremony, these tips will help you stay within your budget without sacrificing on style:
-
The first port of call when planning your wedding is to decide on the date. Why not hold your wedding in the Spring or in Autumn? Prices are oftenlower in these seasons. Business is slower during these months, therefore, venues, caterers and photographers will be more willing to negotiate their fees.
-
If your wedding is in the ‘high season’, the Summer months, you should try to avoid marrying on a Saturday. Why not get married midweek or on a Fridayor Sunday? Prices will be sky high on Saturdays so do try to avoid them if you want to save money on your wedding ceremony.
-
Next are the wedding invitations, save on paper and printing costs by listing the ceremony and reception details on a single card. Go for thermographicprinting on your wedding invitations as this is much cheaper than the traditional copper-plate engraving. Try companies like Piccolo Press (picolopress.co.uk or picolopressusa.com) and Peach Cocktail (peachcocktail.co.uk) that specialise in this type of printing.
-
If you buy plain, inexpensive stationery, it is a good idea to decorate it with rubber stamps. Rubber stamps are brilliant for this. You just need tofind an image or monogram that works with the style or theme of your wedding. Try Sir Stampalot (sirstampalot.co.uk) for unique deisigns. You could ever use rubber stamps on home-made order of services and save-the-date cards too.
-
To save on decorating costs you should choose a wedding ceremony venue that is already decorated. For example, you could hold your wedding in anhistoric home that’s decked out for Christmas or a botanical garden in Spring. To find the perfect wedding ceremony venue for you, visit weddingvenues.com where you can refine your search according to 38 categories that include airports and zoos!
-
In order to avoid paying out rental fees for two locations and the costs of transporting your guests between these locations, try and find a licensedvenue that you love that can accommodate both your wedding ceremony and your wedding reception.
If you follow these six steps, you can save money on your wedding ceremony but still have the wedding of your dreams. Good luck!

If you are using a florist and are getting married at a church then tell the florist that the flowers are for a church ceremony and not a wedding. There is an incredible mark up when the word wedding is used. Tell the Pastor, Preacher, etc. this so they can back you up. It’s not lying and you are being honest it is a church ceremony.

Spring and fall are now the most desirable wedding times; you will NOT save money by choosing them. Fridays and Sundays? Possibly. Most venues are not noticeably cheaper except for Sunday brunch, but you will save on other things. Appropriate dress for a Sunday afternoon wedding is less formal and thus less expensive; the flowers will be less elaborate. Your choices of liquor will be less, and most people will drink less. Friday night, on the other hand is not going to make much of a difference.
