He has proposed, the ring is on your finger, now comes the stressful part - planning the wedding. You want the dream wedding but you and your parents are not made of money so what do you do?
Statistics say that the average wedding costs $20,000. Most young girls dream of the fairy tale wedding - the long white gown, eight bridesmaids, a sit-down dinner and the band that everybody dances to.
Many brides have been dreaming about their wedding day since they were small, however, these dreams normally come with an expensive price tag. You can make your dream day happen without breaking the bank, it is possible to save money without making huge sacrifices.
If you take the time to plan and investigate, you will be astonished at the amount of money you can save. Would you arrive at an interview for your dream job without doing any preparation before hand? No, you would not and that is why preparation and research will make your wedding a success without having to re-mortgage the house! It is only natural to want the Cinderella fantasy wedding complete with ice sculptures, a heavenly cake and hundreds of guests who have flown in from around the globe to enjoy your big day with you but it is also only human to cry at the bill that this dream can rack up.
Costs can accumulate quickly. Add up the cost of the meal, the drinks, the music, the dress, the flowers, the photographer and the decorations and the dream wedding can seem way out of your league; it doesn’t have to be though.
How can somebody on the average salary have a beautiful wedding with all the trimmings? Perhaps the three letter acronym that say it best is D.I.Y. - Do It Yourself! Obviously, you can’t do everything yourself but there are plenty of things that you can do yourself for your wedding and still have your dream day.
For example, you could make your own invitations, you could make your own favors, you could even do the catering yourself.
Spending your life savings on your big day is crazy. You can have an elegant, beautiful wedding without breaking the bank.
Having a cheap wedding does not mean that you have to give up style or class. It simply means using your imagination, using your own hands and maybe even using the help of family and friends. Ask anyone you know to help out. Almost everyone will be happy to help. They will be part of your special day which makes them special themselves!
It is possible to have an amazing ceremony and reception for around $2,000 if you remember those three little letters … D.I.Y.
Good luck!
